John Hazelwood is currently enrolled in Texas Tech University as a Music Education major. His primary instrument is
the Baritone Saxophone. He studies under David Dees, professor of saxophone at TTU. He was self taught on piano and has played
in a few different groups on the keys. He has studied Jazz performance with coaching on his Jazz composition under Brad Leali.
John is also an active composer. He has had pieces performed by trombone choirs, jazz bands, saxophone quartets,
and pianists from Texas Tech University and around the United States. John has worked with Trucial Productions, Joe Ensley
and Tai Suzuki, with film compositions. The largest task to be undertaken so far is the film "Joy" which can be
found on the "Movies" page of this site. A 45 minute long film, it was the first real jump into film composition.
John has also been the score composer and sound effects engineer for the video game development company Avanguarde.

Recent News!
Things are starting to gear up for John. His second piece to be premiered and performed by one of Texas Tech's Jazz orchestras
was accepted very well at the performance. The next piece is in the works with high expectations of a new leader after the
sad news was given that his teacher and mentor, Brad Leali, would be leaving for a teaching gig at North Texas University.
John has been getting requests from around the country including Florida, Maryland, Washington D.C., and as far west
as Colorado. Film scoring seems to be the theme of the work at this point but John also has some other projects in the works.
A piece being written for Lake Braddock's Symphonic Band along with more commissions for trombone choirs and saxophone quartets
are coming along. Things are looking good.
